Living with my mother was not a bed of roses but every day was not a bad day. She did teach me a lot of important things to live a good tasteful life. One thing she told me was; “Do not respond to every bad thing you hear someone say about you. If you comment you are giving them the encouragement to continue. It might hurt you but take the hurt and shut up. They will eventually find someone else to talk about.” It was hard to shut up but I did and today I am still doing it. Yes, I might respond to a comment, but if the person keeps adding more statements and I see no end to the foolishness, I don’t respond. I am just too refined to get into a tit-for-tat.
