My father was a surveyor and one of my sisters is a geologist. Listening to them talk about the land and its vegetation, rivers and streams, I know that this flooding in Trinidad and Tobago is happening because of the destruction of the vegetation, rivers and streams.  I grew up in Trinidad and yes, some areas used to flood but that was in the lowline areas. In a matter of one to two days the water used to run off. Today you can see that the water has nowhere to run. Many people are squatting in areas that are not conducive to live. They cut down the vegetation that holds the land in place. They build their homes near streams and rivers. They dump their garbage in rivers and streams, blocking the water way. Stop acting as though the land belongs to you and you can do what the hell you want to do with it.
