“BLACK FRIDAY DRAMA”

It is amazing how so many people are excited to spend their money. They will hurt you even kill you.
1. A Las Vegas shopper was shot on Thanksgiving Day as he tried to take his television home.
2. Three people got into a brawl in Wal-Mart, Rialto Calif, because shoppers were cutting the line. Two were taking into custody/
3. A WalMart in White Plains, NY calls of bomb on the premises caused the store to evacuate. No explosive device found.
4. A woman used a stun gun on another after a brawl outside Franklin Mills Mall in Northeast Philadelphia.
5. A shopper was charged in New Jersey with aggravated assault after an argument over a television.
6. Bullets fly in Illinois
7. One man’s arm was sliced to the bone during a fight over a parking space at a Walmart store in Virginia. Police seized a rifle at the scene. Both men were arrested.
8. Police shot a man believed to be involved in a shoplifting scheme at a Kohl’s in Illinois.
9. A mob of people pushing each other over a flat screen TVs in a North Carolina Walmart.
And I can go on and on about the excitement these people have to spend their money…

“ORANGE-LEMON POUND CAKE”… This Orange-Lemon Pound Cake is SCRUMPTIOUS!

One of my favorite Christmas and also Thanksgiving desserts… The first day I saw this recipe, I thought that it was not a good recipe for a cake. I made the cake and my family said that it was the best cake they ever ate. After I tasted it, I said this Orange-Lemon Pound Cake is SCRUMPTIOUS!

INGREDIENTS, Makes a 10-inch cake
3 Cups all-purpose flour
2 Cups granulated sugar
1 Tsp. salt
1 Tsp. baking powder
½ Tsp. baking soda
1 Cup sour cream
1 Cup butter or margarine, room temperature
1 Tsp. vanilla
2 Tsp. grated orange peel
5 Eggs

1. Spoon flour lightly into cup and level off to measure.  Combine flour, sugar, salt, baking powder, baking soda, sour cream, butter, vanilla, orange peel and eggs in large mixer bowl.

3. Butter and flour a 10-inch pan.  Pour cake batter into pan.

“Foolish People On The News”

I sometimes wonder if people do now know that there are camera’s everywhere or they are just foolish people. This young man, looked up at a camera (He probably felt that it was not working.) then he dropped a banana peel on the ground. As the train stopped and the doors open, he stepped on the peel, skates and fell on the floor inside the train. He sued the subway and won $15,000, but then the video of the incident surfaced so now he is being charged with fraud…

“THE KNOCKOUT GAME”

A 72 year old woman in East New York, Brooklyn is the latest victim of the ‘KNOCKOUT GAME’.
If I say that I am not afraid I am not being truthful. There are many scenarios on my mind about the KNOCKOUT GAME.
1. Unaware that the young or adult male walking towards me would punch me.
2. Thinking that the young or adult male walking towards me is a KNOCKOUT GAMER.
The latter is how I am going to judge every young or adult male who is walking towards me because I am going to be on my Ps and Qs. If you are a KNOCKOUT GAMER, you are not going to flaw my ass without a fight.
3. I worry about my daughter and her classmates. It is night time when they come home from school.
4. I worry about my husband and son. Many innocent males would be judge as being KNOCKOUT GAMERS, and this could cause dreadful results.
I don’t know who came up with this game, but, “THE DEVIL IS UPON US! WHAT THE … JESUS!

A storm is coming. The weather man said rain for us, but snow for some areas. It is very cold so only God knows what will really fall out of the sky. For all those who are driving, be very careful and remember, NO DRINKING AND DRIVING AND ROAD RAGE~ Enjoy and be safe~

“Happy Tuesday”

I am still getting set for Thanksgiving. My Favorite Cookies~ This recipe was given to me by a dear friend –Ann ~ She would have been 94. This is our second year of not getting a phone call from her. I miss that. She was a beautiful soul.  These are my Thanksgiving Cookies. They are guaranteed to make a hit with your family and guests… Enjoy.

MY FAVORITE COOKIES

“Tonka Bean –Vanilla”

For my favorite cookies, I use home made vanilla. Tonka Bean – Vanilla… Did you know that if you grate Tonka beans, put it in Vodka… leave it to marinate or as Trinbagonians say, soak, for three weeks, to a month, it makes the best flavored vanilla?

“A Beautiful Morning”

Sun~ Covered by clouds.
Rain~ On the way.
Love~ It burns inside.

Oh what a beautiful morning...

“They Call It A Game”

The latest trend~ ‘KNOCKOUT GAME’: Teens are attacking innocent people just for fun. It does not matter the age of the victim they would walk up to him/her — adult/child and punch you, knocking you down/out. This is going on in San Diego, St. Louis, Chicago, Syracuse, NY… Another horrible situation to be aware of. Be careful when you go out. The devil is on the move…

“Happy Monday”

You are reading this so you were blessed with another day. Thank you God for everything. I don’t know what you are doing, but I am getting set for Thanksgiving. A blessed safe day to you and yours.

“My Sweetbread”
I am not one to follow the rules of any recipe. I always add or take out something. Regular vanilla is good, but I use Tonka Bean vanilla and My Sweetbread looks and tastes delightful!
INGREDIENTS:
3 Cups Flour
1 Cups granulated sugar … I am using brown sugar.
3 Tsp. baking powder
¾ Cup water
1/2 Cup margarine, room temperature
1½  Tsp. vanilla essence
1 Egg
½ Cup mixed peel (I put in my magic bullet to make the pieces smaller because I don’t like the size of the mix peel.
1 Cup raisins
1 Coconut
1 Tsp Angostura bitters
1 Cup cherries (Everyone tells me it is ½ cup, but I love cherries in my sweetbread)
¼ Cup Brown Sugar to sprinkle on top of sweetbread.
My Preparation:
1. Cut each cherry into four pieces.
2. Chop mixed peel into smaller pieces.
3. Grate coconut then add sugar, water and mix with a wooden spoon.

Add margarine, mix thoroughly.
5. Sift flour and baking powder then mix into the coconut mixture.
6. Add fruits and mixed peel.

“Happy Sunday”

“Happy Sunday”
To you and yours, I wish you a happy, peaceful Sunday. Today I am going to season my meat for Thanksgiving. #1 on the list is the turkey.

“Marinate/Soak Turkey”
This is how I prepare my turkey for roasting/frying.
1. I submerge my turkey in a bucket filled with water that has; 2 cups of lime/lemon juice, ½ cup vinegar and 1 cup salt. Cover the bucket and leave it to marinate/soak for 3 to 4 hours.
2. While the turkey is marinating/soaking get your seasoning ready. This is the seasoning I use. I blend in vinegar/lime/lemon juice, onion, cilantro, scallions, ginger and lots of garlic.
3. Take turkey out of the bucket, put into a bowl, in the kitchen sink and wash outside and inside of the turkey… plucking out the feathers that I find.
4. I put the turkey in a baking pan then I seasoned with the blended mixture, adding salt and black pepper. Leave it to marinate/soak until I am ready to roast. The longer it marinate/soak the more scrumptious it tastes…

“The Spin On Black Friday”

Last night my family and I was conversing about~~~ Black Friday. My daughter was nagging her father to go out, and I, like killjoy brought up ‘the craziness of being outside in the cold, at that hour of the morning to spend your money’. My husband said that he used to think that it was really a stupid idea to be waiting out in the cold, in the wee hours of the morning, but someone told him that many people buy the items and then sell them at a higher price. Some people are being paid to do the shopping for others.
If that is really the case then good for them. Make your dollars in a honest way.

“BLACK FREAKING FRIDAY”

Some bargain hunters pitch tents outside of Ohio Best Buy. Now this is 10 days before Black Friday. Are you F… ing kidding me. The temperature is in the 40s and by Sunday it would be in the teens or below.
I am not going to put myself through that kind of shit, to spend my money, to make a man who is freaking rich… RICHER!

Now the works of the flesh are evident: sexual immorality, impurity, sensuality, idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, fits of anger, rivalries, dissensions, divisions, envy, drunkenness, orgies, and things like these. I warn you, as I warned you before, that those who do such things will not inherit the kingdom.
I believe that most of the people who judge their brother/sister is guilty of one of the above sins. He who is without sin… You know what to do…
On this beautiful Friday, I wish you and yours a wonderful safe day.

“The Circle”

You should know you are out of the circle, when the phone numbers change and they did not give you the new number.
You also should know you are out of the circle, when the address change and they did not give you the new address.
When the phone number, address and email address changes now you are severed from the circle~ Don’t cry~ Take ah hint…

“When Did Jesus”

My husband and I went to a dinner party one New Years Eve night. When we arrived the host asked us if we would like a glass of wine? We said yes, but I asked if he had Dry Wine?
“Oh you want sugar free? I do have, sugar free wine.” He said and went to get the wine. He handed us the glasses of wine then he stood next to his wife and he made a toast. I looked at the wine and it did not look like any I had tasted, but after the toast the ten people in the room sipped from their glass. When the so called sugar free wine hit my tastebuds, I squeezed my husband’s hand. He looked down at me and smiled then whispered, “When did Jesus turn water into grape juice?” Hysterical…

“It Hurts”

On this beautiful Wednesday emotions are running high for many of you so cry~ Don’t hold it in. Cry about it. Just cry~ Let the tears flow. Release the heart from the pain. It is your heart and you need it after the hurt is gone.
After the hurt, and the rational thoughts came into your mind, about how to handle it~ Do not doubt it~ Do it.
I wish you and yours love, peace and joy…

Nothing is less important than which fork you use. Etiquette is the science of living. It embraces everything. It is ethics. It is honor. ― Emily Post (1872-1960)

“The Cutest Dramatist”

Sit in a class of kindergarten children and you are guaranteed to have a hysterical moment. They are the cutest little dramatists.
The best question to ask them is, Do you have a pet and what kind? Hands will go up and they would ask excitedly to speak first and the drama begins.
Jim, Joan and Michael~ had dogs.
Jill, Linda, Ryan~ had cats.
Sally, Leon and Timothy~ had parrots.
Glen will sit quietly until the right moment.
Lisa, Susan and Michelle~ had different kinds of bird.
When the teacher gets to John, he had a lion.”
“That’s not true,” Glen said.
“Yes,” John said.
“No!” Said Glen.
“Yes!” Said John.
“I was by your house... I did not see any lion,” Glen said.
“My daddy lock it up!” Glen shouted.
“You lying!” Glen said and he gets upset.
In the midst of the argument the teacher tries to calm them down so she said, “Do you have a pet Glen?”
“Yes. I have an elephant,” He whispered as he wiped his eyes...

“Black Friday Drama” (2013)

Next Friday is officially Black Friday. My daughter was on a roll yesterday explaining to her father why they should go to the store at midnight.
He said, “You could shop today. The sales already started.”
“Dad, it’s not the same thing.”
“Ask your mother to go.”
I said, “You guys know I am not a Black Friday kind of  person so ‘NO. I’M NOT GOING! Leave me out of it.”
“He said, “Ok we’ll see.”
I started to kill joy, “Last year a man and a woman was shot outside a Walmart. In San Antonio a shopper pulls a gun on a man. Two men had a boxing match over a pair of jeans.”
“Okay mom. You had to go there?”
“Yes. There are many more Black Friday drams. Do you want me to continue?”
“No!” she said and walked away.

“I Remember Good People And Some Not So Good”

We used to look out for the unfortunate. It amazed me, one day, when I was a teenager I went shopping at a clothing store. I noticed there was money on the counter… One dollar bills, quarters, nickels, dimes and cents in separate heaps. I asked the cashier (the owner) why he had the money on the counter. He said, “If you are not busy just wait a little and you would see. I stood at the side and we were talking about this and that then a blind man walked in with a child. The child took a dollar, quarters, dimes, nickel and pennies. He told the owner thanks and the man also thanked the owner then they left. After they left, homeless people trickled in one by one, and they did the same thing. I was amazed how they did this without a hitch…
I went into a restaurant, but on this occasion a lady sat by the door with a table. The money was laid out in the same manner and the homeless came.
Two years ago I stood in a restaurant buying food. A homeless man came and stood next to me and he said, “Miss can you please buy me something to eat?”
The cashier was about to tell him to leave and I glared at her so she shut up. I told him to tell her what he wanted and he did. She looked at me and I said, “Please give him what he wants, I’m going to pay you.”
She did and he smiled, told me thanks then he left. While I was paying the manager came and stood next to the cashier. When I was about to leave he said, “Miss, those kinds of people are not allowed in here and you were encouraging him.”
I stared at him and I said, “You could lose all this shit in a moment and become homeless in a flash!”
On this beautiful Monday, be kind to someone. It really feels good. A blessed safe day to you and yours…

“A Mother’s Touch” (Part 8)

Lisa was 16 and she never experienced a mother’s touch. She could not remember if there was ever a moment of kindheartedness from her mother. Everything she did or say, a rebuff would follow. One day she was so upset by the slighting that she said, “For once in my life, I would love to hear you say, “Thanks Lisa. You did good.”
“What did you say?”
“You heard me.”
“Don’t you ever speak to me like that!” A slap followed that moment and as usual Lisa walked outside and sat under her tree.
Lisa avoided her mother as much as possible. One day she felt thirsty so she stood in the laundry room waiting until no one was in the kitchen. The moment it was empty she went in, took a glass and poured some juice in it. As she was about to drink the juice, her mother walked in the kitchen.
“Who did you ask for that juice?”
“Nobody. I was thirsty.”
“Next time drink water!”
“Okay.”
On those days when Lisa took water, her mother would sometimes look to make sure that she did not take juice. This has been happening for many years and she was tired of it. She decided to drink water at school and on Sundays when she was at church, but not at home.
Weeks went by and Lisa did not know that she was not taking in enough fluids. One day when she went to urinate, she felt a sharp pain in the abdomen. During the day she felt regular urges to urinate and the pain was ever present. She told her mother what was happening to her.
“Tell your father when he comes home from work,” Joanne said.
When Michael arrived home Lisa told him so he phoned her doctor. When the doctor heard the symptoms he asked the color of the urine and if she had sunken eyes. Michael told him the urine was the color of amber and her eyes were sunken. The doctor said that Lisa was dehydrated and she needs to drink 8 glasses of water daily. Give her a glass of water immediately... preferably, coconut water.
Michael went outside and picked three coconuts opened them and filled a jug with the water then handed Lisa a glass. He stayed home from work the next day to take care of Lisa…

“Kindness”

A kind word~ A gentle touch~ A sweet smile~ A peaceful moment~ A whisper of love~ Kindness is one of life’s wonderful gifts~ It warms the heart~
Instead of; A loose tongue/You hit the roof — Be quiet. Walk away.
I wish you and yours kindness…

“Your Beliefs Are Yours”

Faith~ conviction~ principle~ idea~ confidence~ trust~ certainty~ credence~ is yours and I have no qualms with that. I have a problem when you try to demand that I make it my own. People who know me well know that I was Christened in the Roman Catholic Church, Point Fortin, Trinidad and Tobago~ I attended church every Sunday morning~ Sunday school at 2 O’clock every Sunday evening. I made First Communion then Confirmation so I am a staunch Catholic. Do not think because I am a Catholic, I do not read the bible. The first time I read it, it took me one year and six months~ I started from Genesis and I ended with Revelation. I could tell you how much of our daily life style is in that book, but my discussion about the bible is with me and my family~ We need to edify each other about our beliefs in God —AND THAT IS THAT!
At times when people start to talk to me about religious beliefs, I listen attentively and then I say, “Thank you for sharing your views. I will think about it.” When they walk away, I always say, “I really would like to see how holy and worthy you are to God, when no one is looking.” I wish I was a fly on the wall in your home to see your actions…

“On The Sabbath”

Not by choice he works on a Saturday. His Job demands it. Every morning when he headed out to work an elderly neighbor would always be sitting by her window praying. They never spoke to each other, but one Saturday mornings she shouted, “6 days a man should labor! On the 7th day he shall rest!”
“If your ass falls in a hole on the Sabbath, will you leave it or take it out?” He did not look up at her, but all he heard was the sound of the window closing.
On this beautiful Thursday. A wonderful safe day to you and yours…

“Bitterly Cold”

Looking through the window outside looks like a beautiful sunny, warm day. It really looks like a day to wear a tank top and short pants.
I am not letting the moment of excitement blind me to truth. The temperature in this part of NY is 30ºF and it feels like it’s in the teens~ A bitterly cold fall day~ If this is fall, winter is going to be cold like hell! A wonderful safe day to you and yours.

Melancholy is as seductive as Ecstasy.Mason Cooley (1927-2002)

It is through the cracks in our brains that ecstasy creeps in.Logan Pearsall Smith

Existence itself does not feel horrible; it feels like an ecstasy, rather, which we have only to be still to experience.John Updike (1932- 2009)

The ineffable joy of forgiving and being forgiven forms an ecstasy that might well arouse the envy of the gods.Elbert Hubbard (1856-1915)

Anyone who hasn't experienced the ecstasy of betrayal knows nothing about ecstasy at all.Jean Genet (1910-1986)

“Start To Compare”

Do not end a relationship then immediately start another. You may do all the things necessary to make the new relationship work and it may seem to work. If the first love is still in your system, you will start comparing the old with the new.
Give yourself time to get over the love you let go. Make sure she/he is out of your system.

“Kindness Is A Gift” (Part 7)

Michael sat on the porch sipping a hot cup of coffee. It was 5:30 in the morning. The sun was rising, and the reflection of it on the clouds was very nice, but he did not see it. Joanne was still in bed and he felt hurt because of the way she behaved a few hours ago.
Lisa was having an attack of bronchitis. She was coughing as she knocked the bedroom door and whispered, “Daddy… can… you… come. Please?”
Michael heard her, but for a moment he thought he was dreaming, then Joanne punched him on his arm. “Your daughter is calling you. That cough is annoying and I want to sleep so go take care of it. He got up, opened the door and touched Lisa’s forehead. “You are burning up.” “Come honey. Let’s go to the kitchen.” He lifted her into his arms. Although Lisa had cough medication, Michael did not give it to her because she had it an hour ago and the dosage was every 4 hours. He decided to make her a cup of honey ginger tea with cinnamon.
Lisa sat on a chair and she whispered, “Daddy, I’m sorry for waking you up.”
“No Lisa. Do not be sorry. You must wake me, if you need me. I am here for you. Promise me you will wake me.”
“I will wake you.”
“Good.”
“Thanks Daddy.”
“You are welcome Honey.”
Michael made the tea and gave Lisa a cup. After she drank half of it she said she was full, so he proceeded to rub her chest and feet with Vicks. When he was finished he put socks on her feet, then he tuck her in bed.. Her cough had subsided and she was now sound asleep. The sun was now up and a gentle breeze was blowing. It was a beautiful morning, but thoughts of Joanne’s unkind ways had Michael emotional…

“An Enormous Response”

Joseph Campbell— The Power of Myth:- Chief Seattle was one of the last spokemen of the Paleolithic, moral order. In about 1852, the United States Government inquired about buying the tribal lands for the arriving people of the United States, and Chief Seattle wrote a marvelous letter in reply. His letter expresses the moral, reality of our whole discussion.
To me it was an enormous response by Chief Seattle, but one paragraph resonated to me: “As we are part of the land, you too are part of the land. This earth is precious to us. It is also precious to you. One thing we know: there is only one God. No man, be he Red Man or White man, can be apart. We are brothers after all.”

On this beautiful Friday, the first day of November, 2013. My hope is that today would be a better day for you and yours than yesterday...
