Trinbagonians talk. (210) Sadness. Nine Days in 2022 and 19 People died in a Fire in the Bronx, New York.

My heart goes out to all the people who got hurt and to those who died. I pray that their relatives and friends get strength and courage to face the days ahead. They keep saying on the news that the fire was caused by a space heater, the family ran out of their apartment and they did not close the front door, so the fire spread quickly.  Okay this probably did cause the tragic situation, but why were the family using a SPACE HEATER. It is winter and the law states that buildings are supposed to be heated, but every winter most landlords do not give any heat or barely give heat. The city is supposed to monitor that, but they do not do it properly. I remember living in a building where we hardly got heat so everyone in the building used to be calling the city. On the day the inspector came, the building was toasty. An elderly lady in the building said to the inspector, “I know why we got heat. You were coming. The heat was turned off by 6pm that night. We were back to the cold. Landlords are protected by the city. I wonder how it is really working out for them. The lives of 19 people are on their conscience today. How many more will be added.
