Trinbagonians talk. (136) If You go into the Sea on Good Friday; You will turn into a Fish.

Ah hav’ good memories of Good Friday. For breakfast, we use to eat hot cross buns (meh mudder use to bake) an’ we use to drink orange peel tea. De orange peel tea use to be sweeten wit brown sugar an’ it had no milk in it. Lunch time, we had fry fish, stew fish, cassava dumplins, green figs, ripe plantain–(boil an’ fry), ground provisions –dasheen, yam, sweet potato, Irish potato, eddoe, tannia an’ cassava –(yucca). Fish sauce, Salad – lettuce, tomatoe an’ cucumber. After lunch, we would go on de beach. There would be many people on de beach. Nobody does go in de sea, because our parents did tell us dat we go turn into a fish if we did.

My memories of Good Friday are great. On Good Friday, we ate hot cross buns (my mother baked) and we drank orange peel tea, with brown sugar … no milk, for breakfast. For lunch, we had fried fish, stew fish, cassava dumplings, green figs, ripe plantain –(boil and fried), ground provisions – dasheen, yam, sweet potato, Irish potato, eddoes, tannia and cassava – yucca. Salad – lettuce, tomatoes and cucumber… After lunch, we would go on the beach. There would be many people on the beach. No one goes into the sea, because we were all told that we would turn into a fish if we did…
