Trinbagonians talk. (141) Fear of the hoot hoot, cry from the Owl, but the Douen makes the same sound.

One sunny day, we walk to de beach an’ we took de shortest way to go dey. De place to walk on was a dirt track dat had stones an’ grass. De rest of de place had plenty tall trees. Yuh could hear de birds an’ some of de bugs. Although people did pass us goin’ to de beach or goin’ home, de area look dull. We did stay a while on de beach, then we went home. On we way back, we was quiet. All yuh could hear was we footsteps. De sun was goin’ down an’ de trees was still. De quietness was a bit upsettin’. Suddenly, we hear “Hoot, hoot, hoot, hoot!” from de trees. None of us did say anythin’, buh we start to walk faster. A few minutes later, we did hear de hootin’ sound again.    “What is dat?” Somebody asked.       One person say dat dey didn’t kno’, buh somebody else say dat it must be a owl.    “Owls doh be out this early,” Another person say.          Ah start to feel real funny, so ah walk a little faster, to make sure ah didn’t get left behind. When we hear “hoot, hoot, hoot!” again, somebody say, “Dat must be a douen!”     We all kno’ dat a douen was de un-baptize spirit of a dead child, so we all start to run. Meh heart was beatin’ real fass, buh ah didn’t stop runnin’. Everybody did run faster than me. Ah was real frighten, even though we didn’t hear de hootin’ noise again. Ah did feel dat de creature was quietly followin’ we. When we did get to de main road where it had people, we stop runnin’. All of us start to talk about de stories we did hear about a douen.

One sunny day, we walked to the beach and we took the shortest route to get there. The path to walk on was a dirt track that had some stones and grass. The rest of the area had lots of tall trees. You could hear the birds and some of the insects. Although people passed us heading to the beach or going home, the area looked dismal. We stayed a while on the beach, then we left. On our way back, everyone was quiet. All you could hear were our footsteps. The sun was setting and the trees were calm. The stillness felt a bit daunting. Suddenly we heard “Hoot, hoot, hoot!’ in the trees. Nobody said anything, but we started to walk faster. A few minutes later, we heard the hooting sound again.       “What is that!?” Someone asked.   One person said they didn’t know, but another one said that it must be an owl.            “Owls don’t be out this early,” Another person said. I started feeling very uncomfortable, so I walked a little faster to make sure I wasn’t left behind. When we heard “Hoot, hoot, hoot!” again, someone said, “That must be a douen!” We all knew that a douen was the un-baptized spirit of a dead child, so we all started to run. My heart was racing, but I did not stop running. Everyone ran faster than me and I was petrified. Although we didn’t hear the hooting sound again, I felt the creature might be silently following us. When we eventually got to the main road where there were people, we stopped running. Everyone started talking about the stories they heard about a douen.

We Feel Pain! We Bleed! We Hurt! We Cry! They Don’t Care! They Hate Us!

Imagine your child who is black, is awe-struck by the police.  They believe police officers are law abiding citizens who protect and serve the community, so they want to be a police officer when they become an adult. Yes, there are some police officers who prevent, detect crime, and treat everyone with dignity. We do not know which police officer is going to follow protocol and not be hateful to black people. So, we must give our children ‘The Talk’! And ‘The Talk’ breaks their heart.

Trinbagonians talk. (140) In a Flash Life Changed.

Life change, oui. Meh Saturday use to be meh day of just enjoyin’ life wit family an’ friends. Sometimes ah does make a big pot of chicken, beef, or salted pig tails, peas an' rice cook-up, or ah does make a big pot of chicken, beef, cow heel or salted pig tail soup. We relative an’ we friends does come by we to lime so de day does be a day of talkin’, laughin’, eatin’ an’ drinkin’. Today, Covid19 put a damper on life. Meh Saturdays is not de same as it use to be.

Life is no longer the same. My Saturday used to be my day of just enjoying life with family and friends. I would either make a large pot of chicken, beef or salted pig tail pelau, or I would make a large pot of chicken, beef, cow heel or salted pig tail soup. Our relative and friends usually visit us. The day will be a day of talking, laughing, eating and drink. Today, Covid19 put a damper on life. My Saturdays are no longer the same.

God is in charge. The devil is a liar and he walks among us. They murder us. Man’s law exonerates them, but God’s law convicts them! I pray for my brothers and sisters.

Ex 14:13-14. Fear not! Stand your ground, and you will see the victory the LORD will win for you today. The LORD himself will fight for you: you have only to keep still. Amen.

Mat. 6:9-13. Our father, who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name; Thy kingdom come, Thy WILL be done on earth as it is in Heaven. Give me this day my daily bread; and forgive me my trespasses as I forgive those who trespass against me; save me from falling into temptation and deliver me from evil. Amen.

A Guilty Conscious Needs No Accuser.

Imagine you are hell bent on brutalizing and killing a black person so you finally get the opportunity to do it. Now you feel like you have accomplished your task. All the people who are in your circle are happy for you, but then there is something tugging at your heart. Something telling you that your life will never be the same. The sound of your victim’s cry, the whisper of their last breath HAUNTS YOU! This is your plight for as long as you live!

Trinbagonians talk. (139) I do not like the smell of Marijuana, Cannabis, Weed, Ganja, Tampi or whatever Name you Joint Smokers may Call it.

Plenty countries makin’ it legal to smoke a joint. Ah feel it is about time dey did dat! Ah doh hav’ not’ing against weed smokers. Each man to he own accord. De t’ing dat does get me vex is de people who does like to light up a joint, near to people dey doh kno’. Ah feel yuh puffin’ time should be in yuh own space. Away from odder people. If yuh want to be around people, wen yuh light up, find all yuh weed people an’ go in yuh own place. Some people allergic to Marijuana so hav’ RESPECT!

Many countries are legalizing Marijuana and I feel it is about time! I do not have anything against weed smokers. Each man to his own accord. The thing I have a problem with is the people who like to light up near people they do not know. I believe your smoking time should be in your own space away from other people. If you want to be around people, get in touch with all your weed associates and stay in your lane. Some people are allergic to Marijuana, so have some RESPECT!
