“Hysterical Moment”

My husband was drinking a cup of tea this morning and I asked him what kind of tea. He said that it was Red Zinger Herbal Tea. I chuckled then I said, “All yuh Trinbagonians are something else oui. You living in America and your Hibiscus Bush Tea or Fencing Bush Tea suddenly turned into Red Zinger Herbal Tea…

“Cold But Sunny”

I don’t know what the weather is like in your part of the globe but we woke up to snow. I did not see a bit of black or brown on the ground only white. It is 14ºF but feels like minus something and it will be cold like hell for the rest of the week. All I can do about that is bundle up when I am hitting the streets. I hope you have the right garments for this blast of cold. Although it is very cold it is a beautiful sunny day.
The Day After Tomorrow, is playing in my home every weekend since winter started and I am praying that we do not get to that point.
A wonderful safe day to you and yours.

“Women Do It Too”

When a child is missing, if a crime has been done to the child, it is always assumed a man is the perpetrator. We have to remember that women are perpetrators too.
My daughter and her classmates are 16 about to be 17. They are small in size so they look like 12.
Yesterday my daughter was heading to a college class so she went into the subway to buy a metro card. There was no one at the booth so she went up and told the clerk what she wanted. As she proceeded to get her money from her wallet, someone came and stood close behind her. She tried to turn around, but could not because the person was too close. She said that she looked at the clerk opened her eyes wide and frowned.
“Do you know her?” The clerk asked.
“No.”
My daughter said that the clerk got on her microphone and in a loud voice she said, “Miss. Step away from the young lady... Right now!”
The woman sucked her teeth then she stepped back.
My daughter go her ticket, exited the subway then phones me. She told me how uncomfortable she felt.
Just like men some women love to intimidate children. Creepy…

“Where Was Security”

Every time I think about Avonte Oquendo I feel upset that all the people who saw him walking around, did not think it necessary to make sure that he went back to class.
I have had children in NYC Schools for more than 22 years and still counting. The moment you enter the school building, there is security personnel to log you in and when you are leaving security at the exit. So my question is, “Where was the security on the day Avonte walked away? If they were leaving their posts, why didn’t they lock all doors?
This is so heartbreaking.

“A Fool’s Paradise”

“I love you and I am sorry”, are two statements that can make you live in a fool’s paradise. You believe the speaker’s words ignore his/her actions. Remember, “Action speaks louder than words”. If you ignore the action you are living in “A fool’s paradise”. Living in a fool’s paradise is the worst place to live. So do not pay attention to what they say, pay attention to what they do.
I wish today is a better day for you than yesterday.

“Oh Jeez-An’-Ages”

More snow is expected Saturday, Sunday and Monday~ The best thing about this day is that we woke up to see another day~
I thank God for making me and my family see this day~ Thank you God for everything.
A blessed safe day to you and yours…

“One Snowy Night”

I remember 24 years ago, it was snowing real heavy one night. My husband and I just started dating, so when he came over that night I asked him to go for a walk. He did not hesitate he just said, let’s go.
Visibility was real poor, as the wind blew the snowflakes into our face. We got to the park and the ground was white. Not a single piece of green or black was visible so I told him let us lie on the ground and make angles. He said, "You want a big 6' 4" man to lie on the ground and make ah angel. I love you, but I’m not doing that."
Last night I asked him to go for a walk. He said, "Ah love you more, but I’m not going.” Hysterical! ...

Tuesday, January 21, 2014

It has been snowing since 8 o’clock this morning and it’s supposed to stop tomorrow so it is a split peas, chicken, carrots, potato and dumpling soup day.

“Look At This Day”

It started just right for me. Although we are expecting a snow storm and plunging temperatures down into the minus degrees, I am holding on to the, ‘The joy of living’. Not one iota of negativity is allowed in my space.
Negativity makes you tired, stressed, sad~~~ Just down-right weary!
So today I wish for you positivity, serenity, joviality~~~ Oh yes I wish for you~~~~ Joie de vivre~~~ Energy and love of life…

Martin Luther King Jr. Born: January 15, 1929, Atlanta — Assassinated: April 4, 1968, Memphis. August 28, 1963 — Dr. King stood on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial and he spoke to America and the world.

“I Have A Dream”
I am happy to join with you today in what will go down in history as the greatest demonstration for freedom in the history of our nation.
Five score years ago, a great American, in whose symbolic shadow we stand today, signed the Emancipation Proclamation. This momentous decree came as a great beacon of hope to millions of slaves, who had been seared in the flames of withering injustice. It came as a joyous daybreak to end the long night of their captivity. But one hundred years later, the colored America is still not free. One hundred years later, the life of the colored American is still sadly crippled by the manacle of segregation and the chains of discrimination…

I have to post this again. Just a reminder.
Young and old… we suffer pain. I am hearing about some young teens with arthritis, just like the elderly. Do you know that Nutmeg Oil is very good for pain?

“Missing Child”

The latest on Avonte Oquendo, 14-year-old. He is atheistic and does not talk. A human hand and other body parts were found along the East River in Queens. They are checking to see if it is Avonte. Lord have MERCY!

Ain't nobody ever loved nobody~ The way that I love you~ We're alone now~ You don't how~ Long I’ve wanted to~

“Confrontation”

Argument~ Disagreement~ Quarrel~ Altercation~ War of words~ Conflict~ Row~ It really doesn’t matter how it is called, I don’t like it!
There are times when someone says something to me and I come back with a good retort. There are times when they say something I am so flabbergasted that I get speechless.
EVERY BLACK MAN IS A KING!
A Rasta woman said that to me and we had a war of words. One year later in an angry tone she said that her husband doesn’t like to work. When they started dating he did not have a steady job and he was not working when they got married. I was listening to her ranting and I was staggered so I could think of a retort. After we hung up the phone then it hit me and I whispered, “How the fuck, do you expect him to work— EVERY BLACK MAN IS A KING?”
I am seeing a lot of people wearing shirts with ‘EVERY BLACK MAN IS A KING printed on it. I am wondering since that statement is so vibrant, why did the first black man I knew —my father, got up a 4:00AM, Monday to Friday, got dressed and headed to work? My three brothers —BLACK MEN got up an hour later and headed to work. This morning I look at my husband —A BLACK MAN, got up a 5:00AM, got dressed and headed to work. Did their mixed ancestry cause them to have to go to work to earn a living? By some weird phenomenon, they are not considered to be black men?
People should be proud of their works rather than what they are born into. It is better to say, “I helped this person”, or “I saved this person”. BE PROUD OF THAT.
You cannot choose your ancestry, but you can choose how you behave, how you treat people…

“Do You Remember When”

We were children, everyday we were given an orange, grapefruit and or fig—banana, as our fruit intake~ But we ate many other fruits— mango, cherry, balata, sugar apple, sugar cane, governor plum, hog plum, guava, papaw, grou grou beff, pommecythere, cocorete, five fingers, barbadine, soursop, chinee tambran, pineapple, tamarind, corn, fat pork, watermelon, chennette, coconut pommerac… Do you remember also added to our fruit intake was Cod Liver Oil, Malt and Molasses… Our intake of vitamins A, B, C, D, E, Potassium etc was always an overdose~ Did we get the cold flu~ We hardly ever did, but if we did some kind of bush medicine was the medicine of the day. Do you remember…

“ANOTHER SCHOOL SHOOTING”

Roswell, New Mexico a 7th grader opened fire in the school gym with a 22-gauge sawed off shotgun. This child is a 12 year old Middle School student. He shot an 11 year old classmate in the face.

“Romanticizing 133 Years Ago”
We are back in the 1800… The Gunfight at the O.K. Corral took place at about 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 26, 1881, in Tombstone, Arizona Territory. , and is generally regarded as the most famous gunfight in the history of the American Old West. 133 years ago and I believe some people are romanticizing this time~ wanting it back —EERIE!..

“I Hated Goat Milk”

We lived on a dead end street. At the end of the street was grassland and a swamp was at the end of the grassland. There were cows grazing on the grassland, along with the cows were our neighbor’s goats. Every morning at a particular time the goats would leave home and head to the grassland. They would graze all day and as if by clockwork they would leave the grassland every evening and head home. One day I was playing in the yard with the neighbor’s children and one of the elder girls started milking a goat. She passed around cups of milk. Everyone was drinking the milk… just enjoying the taste. The only milk I knew was Klim and Fernleaf Powdered Milk and they tasted real good even if you had it dry. I never tasted goat milk and I did not want any so I started to sneak out of the yard, hoping to get away without being noticed. The gate to our yard was about 10 steps away, but it suddenly felt like miles away. As I reached the neighbor's gate and was about to go through, she said, “Come and get some milk Allison.”
“No thanks. My belly is full. I’m not hungry.”
“Come here and drink some milk.”
Now she was bigger than me so I slowly walked back to her, took the cup and drank a little. “The goat milk tasted horrible, but when I looked around her mother was sitting on the step with a smile on her face that said, “You better drink the milk.
I drank the milk then I went home and told my mother. She said, “It is good for you, and it will strengthen your bones. Did you say thanks?”
“Yes, but I hate goat milk. It taste horrible.”
Today I drink goat milk and I even eat goat cheese with Crix and I love it...

Be very careful when you are walking or driving. Rain is falling and it is freezing when it hits the ground so skating/sliding can happen. Dangerous conditions…

I wish everyone will own up to their part and stop playing the victim. I just wish everyone would be honest.

“Do You Remember”

Many years ago in Trinbago people used to get white spots on their skin. The adults told us that it was Lota. They also told us that you can get it from mosquitoes or other insects. Some people used cocoa butter which got rid of it, but then the pharmisist told people that there was something better to use on the spots. That thing was called potash. Let me tell you~ Potash used to smell stink…

“Bundle Up”

It is cold and I am not saying fridge temperature, it is freezer temperature, so if you are not dressed in layers, and you are out in the elements, you will freeze. This is how I dress to go out in the freezer. Underwear —vest, long sleeve shirt, tights, jeans. Outerwear —scarf, coat, hoodie, gloves and boots. I hope you bundle up to go out. Have a blessed safe day.

You eventually call another person who knows them and the person tells you that they changed their phone number… This person gives you the new phone number… Will you call the new number?

“The Flying Squad”

I say bring back the flying squad... Trinbagonians would know this squad which was led by The Commissioner of Police Randolph Burrows … Retired Police Inspector Mervyn Cordner. All them old people who claim to be Trinbagonians and saying that they don’t know about Mervyn Cordner … hmm, them need to prove they are born Trinbagonians. Growing up in the 70s you would know about the Flying Squad. Crime was down. This squad used to shoot first and then ask questions later… All those criminals were scared and hiding, but would soon be dead. We are in the first month, second day of the year and I am hearing about 5 murders… It is time to bring back the Flying Squad… Living in Trinidad would be like the 80s…. Love would be floating in the air…  Mercy for Trinidad and Tobago

“It Is Brutal Outside”

A blizzard is on the way, light snow is already falling, but the snow is expected to fall heavily as the hours go by. For those of you who have to go outside and face the elements, I hope you have the necessary garments and foot wear to be out. For those of you who are staying in, I hope your home is warm.
On this beautiful Thursday, the second day of January, 2014 I am not going to complain. All I am going to say is thank God for making my family, I and you see another day. Yes I mean you because you are reading this…
