Children are the future. They are the saviors of humanity. Yesterday millions of young people marched in the Global Youth Climate Strike. More than 120 countries youths participated in the march. I pray they get strength and courage to keep going. We need them.

From childhood to adult I met many female nurses and yes, they did their job articulately but there was a bit of haughtiness in their attitude. A nurse is supposed to be kind, thoughtful, gentle, helpful and considerate. The female nurses I met hardly portrayed that role well. I must say all those attributes flow easily from male nurses. Ladies it is time to let haughtiness go. Now I do not mean to offend but this is my opinion.

Today is added to our history, thanks be to God. We don’t know what tomorrow would bring but I am grateful for seeing another day. Amen.

One of my sisters said to me, “A mother is born.” I asked her what she meant by that and she said, “Look at some women taking care of children that they did not give birth too. These women make selfless sacrifices for these children. They make them skillful, knowledgeable and honest to goodness humans. Not because a woman gives birth to a child makes her a mother, so, ‘A mother is born.”

Trinbagonians I have to talk about this. Years ago, when you buy pholourie you used to get at least 10 to 12 in a bag with mango chutney. Today when you buy pholourie you get no more than 6 and the seller would ask you what kind of sauce you want. Sauce! It is time to grate some green mango and make some chutney. Stop pouring sauce on the pholourie making it soggy.

I have been to the Bahamas and it was a beautiful island. It is so sad to see the massive destruction.

Pay attention to your precious little one’s temperaments. Make sure they are not a bully or is being bullied. We all need to make sure we know who is well-mannered or who is unmannerly. Talk to your child/children.

Pay very close attention to your child/children. Anytime you see a change in their mood, something is going on. Talking to the school’s educators doesn’t help. Parents have to handle the bullies in a calm but no-nonsense way. Please be on top of things, pay very close attention and find that place where your child feels tranquil so you can talk. Let your child/children know that they are not alone. You are their lifeline.
